Hi , my mother inlaws golf has a weird problem

It wont rev above about 3200k and only does 80mph flatout (I know its illegal but you know )

I try’d it tonight and round town it was sitting at 3200k flat out and took ages to get there

No noise from turbo at all, when I dipped clutch and rev’d it she went round to 4500k but still took an age

Any ideas

Is it always like that from the moment you turn the key or is it a case that the car will be running fine then suddenly lose all power.

Check the pipe from the intercooler to the turbo is still connecte at the top of the engine bay - if this has come off then the car has overboosted

The cause of this (in my case - 02 TDI PD 130) was that the fuse for the boost controller (N75 valve, top of engine bay on blukhead towards passenger side) had blowen. It may be this, or you may need a replacement valve. This 'valve' actually uses air pressure to push an actuator valve on the turbo thus controlling the amount of boost.

The worst thing that it could be is the vains in the turbo being clogged up.

Get the car hooked up to Vag Com and see what it says.
