Stiff Steering!

Hi Y'all, I have an 03' Passat 130 TDI, the steering has never been lite an airy like some Japanese cars for example, of late it seems to take more effort to correct the smallest adjustment on a slight bend. I drive 44 tonners, they all have lighter steering than my Passat. Power steering fluid level ok, tyre pressures checked regularly and are at the correct PSI. Your oppinions are most welcome as I feel the next visit to the *******s will be about this problem, forwarned is forarmed.
