Hello everyone, I am new here as I just picked up my new A5 two weeks ago. I am hoping to take the car down to the pyrennes in March to go snowboarding, I am having diffculty deciding what I should use instead of snow chains. the wheels are 255/35 19" Y alloys, I am keen on not marking the alloys so want to use the best solution for this. I have been looking at the FARAD snow crampon and the spikes spyder, does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,
Is your A5 a quattro ? If so, invest in a set of tyres with a winter pattern (eg Vredestein M+S). These are not studded. I've driven through some deep snow on my 90 quattro using them - no chains were required.

Just an alternative idea for you to consider ...
Regards,
Bob

I found this on youtube
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xyrI_tg9iSQ

It shows a Subaru, an A4 and a 90 in deep snow. Not sure if they've got chains fitted or not.

Another one is of a Hummer and a 90 quattro climbing a snow covered hill (the Hummer cannot make it) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6ecBUjlx5A&NR=1

Hope this shows what type of snow these cars can tackle, their biggest issue is ground clearance...

I'd recommend getting some smaller winter wheels.
