Hi everyone,

I wondering if anyone knows what size wheels you can put on a bora without having to do any arch work.

Many thanks

Hi

The biggest I would recommend would be 17" with possibly 225/45 17 tyres. I have these on a Seat Leon, and the ride quality is not too bad.

Any bigger than this and you would have to do modifications I would imagine, plus tyres get expensive from 17" upwards.

Thanks for joining the site, I hope you will return and use it.

Thanks

Hi mate, welcome to the site. Why do you want to change the wheel size would be my first question ? Why not keep the wheels the size that they are and lower the car itself. If you start messing with wheel sizes and tyres then you mess about with the rolling radius and this in turn messes the speedo and mileage. Have a look at this site to get some idea of what changes will happen when you change wheels/tyres. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Just a quick note, as long as you keep the "rolling radius" of the wheel and tyre the same, you should have no real problem. If you speak to a tyre/wheel specialist, they can advise the correct combination for you.

The bigger the wheel diameter the lower the tyre profile.

The thing is about changing the wheels/tyres etc is that the car must have been extensively tested by VW (or any car manufacterer) when they first designed and refined etc, so surely the wheels that they put on the car originally should be (you would have thought) the best wheels for performance, rideability etc. I know we do mods such as suspension, lights etc but the wheels/tyres are the only contact with the road so you'd hope that they would get that bit right. Anyone else any thoughts on this ?

i understand what you mean. its only a little bit of rubber holding you to the tarmac. But if you increased the width of the tyre are you increasing your contact to the road? Of course if you do that you may reduce the performance or rideability. Its a fine balance.
