Hi,

The 2.0 TDI quattro has 170bhp compared to the non-Quattro's 140bhp.

Have Audi simply re-mapped the engine or does it contain differnt components such as stronger internals, bigger intercooler, larger Turbo etc?

Crasher.. if you are reading this, what do you think to Steinbauer please? Would you rate them over Van Aaken?

Thanks in advance.
Alex.

It's not just a remap. The 170 as a bigger turbo and so the boost cuts in at around 2000 rpm as opposed to 1650rpm as in the 140.

The 170 also has a Diesel Particle Filter.

I think it also has higher pressure injectors and a larger intercooler as well.

I'll try and find the links to the engine specs. Unless other people here let you know first.

Make sure you make use of the oil pouch you get with a 170bhp version. They use oil for fun at first, sometimes up until 30k!

£14.99 a litre every 7000 miles.

Makes me wonder if oil changes are worth it. :)

Wow! I know the crank-case breather feeds back into the airbox on most VAG cars these days.

Do you think all that oil gets really hot, gets vapourised, sucked through the airbox and get burnt up by the engine?

Just a thought!

OUCH. That would be no good for my wife because she travels to Liverpool every day from my house in Cheadle, Cheshire. That would mean a litre of oil every 5 months! Plus the oil change that I do when I service it. It makes me wonder how my mate who is doing about 750 miles per week gets on. He has the DSG 170bhp A3 Sportback S-Line.

Having said that, how long before diesel is £14.99 a litre??? That would be ridiculous!

Just to re-cap.. it's just the 170bhp Quattro that drinks oil... not the 140bhp FWD?

The 170bhp versions drink oil, the 140bhp versions are not so bad.

I do about the same as your mate: 3000 a month or there abouts.

It's a small price to pay for all the fun i have.

More miles = More fun

except when sitting on the big old M25 car park

True. Or when going by speed cameras.

Mine was similar... first year pretty bad - but 15 quid every 5 or 6 months wasnt really an issue - didnt use any at all in the last year (3rd year)

Now I've "changed codes" and gone back to petrol 2.0T, I no longer have this savage expense ;)

Are you finding the economy of the 2.0T painful after the deisel or is it ok?
