I have recently bought an 02 tdi sharan. It has 4 years old with 40K. I have three different answers from three different dealers on when it needs a timing belt change. Can anybody out there help?

VW recommend 4 years or 60000 whichever comes first.

Actually, for the 2002 PD engines, the belt and rollers should be changed at 40,000 mile intervals. On 2004 and later engines, this was increased to 60,000 miles for the belt and 120,000 miles for the rollers.

hi matt,i got timing belt changed on my sharan at50,000 miles, also got water pump changed too cos it was heating due to drive wheel on pump running round the shaft.it would heat up but if i let it coast for half a mile it cooled quick,i was ripped of a bit though,it cost me £500 to buy and get both fitted and a friend mechanic said he would have supplied and fitted both for around £300
