Hi,

just bought my second Audi to run alongside my 2.5 Tdi quattro A6 - a 1997 Cabriolet. One of the later ones with the 20v 4 cylinder engine. Done just over 100k miles and is a little used, but far from a banger.

One of the very obvious cosmetic faults I can see straight away is that the oil pressure gange swings right to its fullest extent as soon as the ignition is on - never mind when the engine's running :-). I presume its an open or closed circuit somewhere. is it a common fault? Can anyome point me to where the sender is on this motor?

many thanks all

Jim

Hi Jim, I dont know the engine but the sender has 2 wires going to it, one for the gauge and the other for thr dash light. Its around 2 inches in diameter and 3 inches long. They screw into an oil gallery, the usual place on VAG engines is either by the oil filter / heat exchanger or screwed into the cylinder head at one end.

It could be someone has switched the wires around on the sender by mistake.
