2001.5 VW passat drivers side mirror always tilts up

my mirror always tilts up no matter where the switch is set to. If i turn off the car and lock the doors the motor stops trying to tilt the mirror up. I am able to tilt the mirror down, but as soon as i let go of the switch, the mirror tilt up again and the motor keeps running. If someone can let me know what i can do to resolve this issue it woudl be great. I think it might be the switch but not sure. The passenger side mirror does not tilt up. it works normal.

Sounds like either the switch is shorted inside so that its permanently in up mode, or something is shorting the connections at the back of the switch.

Worth removing the switch and having a look. If you've got a voltmeter/ohmmeter a simple continuity test will show if its shorted inside. If it is it'll mean a new switch although you may get a good one in a breakers yard.
