Hi all, im pretty new to this site, but have recently got back into golf ownership:biglaugh:

My gt tdi, T-plate 110bhp has trouble starting, was lead to believe from warm as i brought the car from a mate, it would just turn over for ages and eventually fri up, but since i got the car it seems to be when it's cold aswell:zx11:

anyway ive changed the glowplugs, still the same, ive read about the temp sensor which i unplugged and the car seemed to fire up better but with some smoke (ecu not telling the car if it's warm or cold), ive also been told about a relay that can need replacing, because a friends caravelle had a problem of starting from warm but this was a petrol, all i know is it had 106 stamped on it.

any other things i could look at?

cheers all

A common fault is the starter motor running too slow. We test this by recoding the ECU as for a car with automatic transmission and if this cures the fault, we replace the starter and recode the ECU back to manual.

Not necessarily, that is just one of many possibilities.
