Hi, guys I'm hoping to change the gearbox oil on my 1999 1.8se 20v and having done a quick search for the oil capacity of the box it returned a blank.

Any ideas what the oil capacity is and whether aftermarket oil can be used or if I must use VAG oils? Anyone have the part number for the oil?

many thanks

2.25 litres of VW’s G 052 911 A2 at £14.56 litre. You will need tool 3357 to remove the drain plug.

sorry, can the same tool be used to open the filler plug on the gearbox? Thought I better ask before draining!

Yes and it is available from any VW dealer but you may have to ask nicely, they are legally obliged (block exemption EU ruling) to sell the tools but they can make life difficult for you.

I'd like to change the gearbox oil in my B5, it feels really crunchy between gears especially when cold... and I think the £40 or so it would cost (am I right?) would be well worth it.

Could anyone recommend a good Audi specialist (with non-dealer charges) in the South East London/ Kent area?

Hello, where have you found such cheap G052 fluid? i have emailed to vw dealer (Ireland) and he wrote me:

= 27.30 + VAT PER LITRE

(33.17 inc vat) euro i think.

£13.50 + VAT per litre is the VAG UK retail price from any VW, Audi, Seat or Skoda dealers parts department or any TPS

No idea, never tried it but the carriage would bump the cost up.
