A4 rear bulb replacement

hi guys,

tried the search function but it will not load so...

how does one change the rear bulbs on a 2003 A4. No way am I taking it to a dealer - it must be simple, but not sure what trim has to come off.

any help much appreciated.

2002 avant when you open boot there is a grommet level with centre of light. Once removed,remove bolt which holds light in place then hinge light out at rear but not to much.Front end is held by 2 ball type sockets just pushed into grommets so just hinge & work front out at same time then bulb holder just unclips

Mine doesn't have a grommet but has a circular groove moulded into the interior cover. I can't see anyway to access a bolt.

Anyone got any ideas?

that gromment just pops out with a screwdriver - the bolt is behind it

No it doesn't, like I said its moulded into the interior trim. It looks like its supposed to be cut out and replaced with some kind of grommet, but its a bit of a risk to take.:1zhelp:

saloon or avant ?
avant as i've said before

saloon - fold pre-punched area of luggage compartment lining forwards
remove bolt
swivel rear light outwards & at same time disengage retaining pins from body

just been to check mine. Audi A4 saloon - 2003.

The circular moulded piece of trim (abot 40mm dia) just pops open with a screwdriver.

Place tip of blade at point nearest the rear of the car, the opposite end is hinged.

It will then pop open and you can see the nut.

After I open the grommet and access the bolt, it only comes out so far. It continues to turn, but it stops coming out. Is the bolt supposed to come out completely?

Thanx jak u r a lifesaver... I'd found the bolt behind the grommet but didn't have the confidence to start yanking out the light unit until I'd read your post. Someone else on the internet wanted £25 for this info! Best wishes
