View Full Version : Trip computer not working

The trip computer on my 2000 Passat 1.9 TDI estate has just packed up. For a few weeks the display was intermittently going blank for a minute or so and then working OK. Last week the display went slightly haywire - the display was offset rather like a TV that needs a hefty kick - and then went blank. Since then, nothing.

Is this likely to be something simple such as a loose connection, or more serious such as a dead computer?

Any ideas welcomed, as I rather liked the feedback on fuel consumption, average speed, etc.

Ive read another post on the mk4 forum and it says to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, and then reconnect, to make it work, i dunno if this will work but i will give it a try.

I have solved what was causing my problem. I had HID light conversion fitted but soon as I turned headlights on , trip display went blank and time display went blank.. put normal headlight bulbs back in and no bother at all since...... I will have to try wiring HID kit with relay to see if this stops problem.............. Tone

Hiya guys sorry i didnt get back but mine is fixed now. It was the actual board that was faulty and I had to pay £300 to get a new one put in. not a bill I wanted to fork out but it is working fine now.

Cheers for the reply. Just wondering if the display is a plug in unit or if i need to solder a replacement to the existing board. I have no worries about doing the latter but just wondering if i need to source a set of dials of if a can just get the display. cheers

Hiya, I dunno if this will help you but when they changed my comp they had to re-code all the keys, so I think that the immoboliser is built into the panel. From what I can see from what was previously there is that the comp screen looks new but the dials look exactly the same I am unsure. If you search up Russell autos on the web you could maybe phone and ask, they are a vw specialist.
