View Full Version : A4 Central Locking Problem

After some recent heavy rain, the central locking on my A4 started playing up - took multiple attempts to open my car, same to lock, and whilst I am driving I can hear the central locking "going" continuously.

I happened not to drive the car for 4 days, and the battery had run completely flat - presumably as a result of the central locking going for 96 straight hours.

Took it to my local electrics specialist; they suspected that water was getting on the pump and this was causing it - any ideas about how to fix (the garage didn't have any!)

If the circuit board in the pump is wet, simply drying out the pump & foam case may cure it. (prolonged exposure can corrode the board/electronics)

It is quite possible that the graphite impeller has shattered with the extended running.

If the pump still produces vacuum/pressure, and locks/unlocks the car within 3 seconds it should be ok.

There is a tiny drain hole in the arch seam below the pump, which can easily become blocked.

Cheers. Car still locks/unlocks, so I suspect I've been lucky.

Having not rained for a little while, it is getting better, but I don't want to not be able to use my car when it rains! Is there any way I can stop the rain being a problem? Drill a hole to let some water out, spray everything in a water repellent etc etc?
