Recent development on the New Beetle: BRAKE indicator on instrument panel blinks, and an annoying beep noise (3 beeps, I believe) is emitted, all while the engine is running. Initial driving diagnostics seem to indicate that the beeping occurs shortly after initiating motion, such as driving away from a stop sign or when the light turns green. Brakes work fine, checked and even added a little brake fluid in master cylinder.

YES, I can go have the brakes themselves checked somewhere, but diagnostically I want to know: what is the blinking light supposed to be telling me, and what does the beeping mean? What sensor(s) trigger the behavior and what are they measuring? Did I mention I really hate idiot lights?

As far as I know this could be as simple an issue as adjusting the handle on the parking brake. Just wanted to know if any of you have had the same issue, and what you learned.

Thanks!

Did you ever find a solution. I'm having a similar problem!

Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir.
