Hi,

Wonder if anybody out there has experienced similar symptoms as the following - and what the cure might be...
Issue 1 - When the car is locked remotely the indicators stick on - and only continuous unlocking/locking in random patterns seems to eventually cure the problem (similar issues when unlocking the car..) - and to a lesser extent the immobiliser light comes on when trying to start the car - after unlocking....
Issue 2 - After a 10 minute journey - and then stopping for no more than 5 minutes, the car refuses to restart. A further wait of 5 minutes seems to allow something in the car to reset? and then off we go again...
Unsure if the 2 issues are related - but the second has got progressively worse over the last 2 weeks. Car is A6 Avant 2.4 manual 1998

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Update: 6/11 - Have successfully repaired the sticking indicators lights issue (repaced hazard switch) - but still have issues with restarting after a journey (although not every time - How annoying!). It's not an immobiliser issue and have just spent £150 on new reeder code - which I probably didn't need to as the fault is still there.
~Symptons are, not wanting to restart within 10 minutes of stopping - but leaving it untouched for a further 15 mins, it then seems to sort itself out.... Alternatively, if it does refuse to start, just keep turning the engine over for 10 secs and then it splutters into life - and is thereafter very lumpy for the first mile or so of journey...
Help..!

Try to change relay 109 as its suplies power to the ecu and they crack inside and when hot intrerupt the power to the ECU and would not suply again until gets cold again. Ecu wont have any fault codes stored of the problem as it thinks the ignition switch was cycled on and off ! 150 is a bit expensive for a scanner but it will pay off in short time plus you can keep an eye on your motor and avoid getting ripped-off again or even atempting to do some of the repairs yourself. Good luck mate !

Thanks for that - I'll give it a try. Annoyingly it seems to be an intermitent problem (possibly dictated by a) length of journey and b) how hot the unit gets? - Could relay 109 still cause the problem - even if it is sporadic. Thanks for your help.

Just noticed that your a4 its petrol, the 109 relay refers to diesels. Dont remember what is the number of the power suply relay for petrol engines...In your case, could be a immobiliser related problem, could be a sensor(s). post the faults you get on the forum as its easier to diagnose the problem that way.

Not sure its Immob related - just get the feeling that when the car gets warm, something 'gives' hence the reluctance to start - but does eventually give in. It's a 98 A6 2.4 - could the power suplly to the ECU still be a prob?

yes, but it does have a different number. If its black it may be ok as they more reliable, if grey, replace immediatelly as they will fail sooner or later ! Search older post in the a4/a6/passat forum as its been discussed before. Also have someone scan the car for you as it could ne the camshaft/crankshaft sensors. If they fail, the car is verry hard to start or wont start at all.
