Why won't my drivers door open?

Hi, I have a Mk 2 Golf GTi, 3 door, and recently, I have been unable to open my drivers door from the outside. It works fine when opening it from inside the car, but not when using the exterior door handle. I had this problem with an older mk 2 golf, so am wondering if this is a common problem and whether anyone has any easy solutions? :confused:

i have had a similar problem with my door , in the handle mech there is a small link bar that links the door mech with the outside handle this bar is just made from plastic and has probably broken not 100% where to get one but GSF would be a good start
