Heated mirrors not defrosting

Hi,

The heated mirrors on my '99 A4 Avant don't seem to work. The fuse is fine, and the rear window demists so I assume the switch is also okay. I read another website where it's hinted that this is quite a common problem, but it didn't give a cause/solution. Can anybody help?

Hi, the elements on the back of the mirrors are notorious for frying/burning and its happening due to a temperamental relay/moisture or corosion. Put your hands on the mirrors while you switch the demister on and see if they get warm. If they dont then you will need to get replacement mirror glass as the printed circuits break and they short. I have used a felt pen and an electrolitic circuit board printing kit (from Maplin) to repair the circuit but it did not last long before burning again:-(
