Can the shareware version of VAG-COM access module 17 (instruments)?

yes but it is not possible to reset the service light or adjust any other values

Sorry to appear dense but does it mean that I cannot adjust the DIS values of channel 3?

Correct, the shareware version does NOT support writing to Adaptation Channels.

Sounds like I found a reason to buy a copy of VAG-COM then!
