How to release the battery?

Not a question I ever thought I would have to ask!

Battery on my 2002 A4 3.0 Quattro gave up the ghost today. No problem I thought, nip down to local battery emporium, return, fit battery and off we go. No.........!

How is the thing held in? I've changed batterys on dozens of cars, vans etc over the years but never come accross anything like this. Am I thick? I've removed the big plastic cover that goes over the pollen filter etc but no sign of a clamp. Anyone know the answer?

Hello mate,
Just registered and I hope I can help. My battery died on my a4 sport on Saturday, assuming it is the same you need to take of the large plastic cover (start with the rubber seal). Once you have done that then you need to undo the 2 clips which hold the foam wiring loom protection in place and then underneath you will find a allan key bolt. It's a bit fiddly but not to bad, they even put a handle on the clamp to make it easier to move!!!
