A while back as I was driving my A4 TDi, on a 2001, my steering suddenly became very stiff and I could not turn into the corner.

The car did not stall, but the battery light was flashing and I was doing roughly 30m.p.h into the bend. When the battery light stopped flashing the steering became active and I was able to turn safely into the corner.

This has never occured before, as you can imagine it was a scary experience. Speaking to a trader he mentioned something about getting the ECU reset

Has anybody had experience of this problem, could anyone please help me out before the end of week as I need to make a trip into London.

Replies appreciated. :1zhelp:

Sounds like water on the poly V belt (makes it slip and lose drive to the alternator/P-S pump) and/or a failed alternator one way clutch. Is it OK now? You would have been able to steer, just needing more effort.
