My cruise control has suddenly stopped working,I am not sure if it is related but I have just had the dash out to change the light bulbs and now it doesnt work.
Any ideas for trouble shooting.
thanks.
Graham.

I am getting the car ready to sell as I have bought a 2002 TDI.
The car has 160,000 miles on its a 19TDI Quattro ming blue,Taxed and MOT,
The car is in mech good condition with cam belts done and so on,a bit used here and there but it is a 1997 model.
Does any one have an idea what it is worth.
cheers
Graham.

As you say you have removed the dash and the cruise control stopped working straight away, the co-incidence is surely high! It is more often than not down to a poor electrical conection that leads to cruise control problems. I had a similar problem in a Merc, i followed as much wiring as possible from the switch and even though i could not see anything obvious the c-control started working again. Hope you have similar luck.

What year and engine code is the car?

Its a 97 19 TDI Quattro eng code ? AFN283948 or is that only the eng number.

Did you take off the steering column switches when you removed the dash? Do you have VAG-COM.

I can't see how you will have upset the CCS just be removing the dash panel, the switch communicates directly with the engine ECU and has brake and clutch pedal inputs. It will need a fault code scan of the engine ECU and the measured value blocks in display group 006 checking to make sure the switch inputs are being recognised and to also check that the CCS is still activated in the ECU coding (a G at the end of the ECU number denotes Geschwindigkeitsregelanlage, literally “speed control governor”) which is done by logging in using the code 11463.

I have had it on the comp with VAG-COM and there were no fault codes showing,so that should eliminate that.

Did you check for G at the end of the ECU coding and that the switch inputs were being recognised?

problem solved after a bit of behind dash reasearch I found the cable on the brake pedal switch not fully on its contacts, replaced it tested and working,so in the end it was simple. The wire looked in place on first sight but simply was not making contact.
Thanks for all tha help and suggestions.

Graham.
