about a month ago whilst driving steadily down the motorway at 80 to 90 mph smoke suddenly puffed out of the exhaust, this happened on and off for the rest of the journey. Now it smokes on and off again but smokes in greater concentration and i feel the car slow slightly when it smokes, also when idling the engine sometimes fluctuates from 850 rpm to 1200 rpm. Is this something to do with the air flow sensor or air flow meter, or something completely different.

Do you have any loss of oil or coolant? If these are ok and its a TDI, start checking the air inlet hoses for any leaks. Have you checked the engine fault codes, if not get that done at a garage or get a code reader off the net (about £25)

Hi, i think its turbo time mate... MAF should give poor performnce whilst driving but no smoke ...under normal acceleration. What colour its the smoke blue /grey or black ? Thank you.
