Got an Audi A4 V6 X reg. Emission light keeps coming on, and coming up with:

16804 P0420
CATALYST SYSTEM BANK 1 EFFICENCY BELOW THRESHOLD

16814 P0430
CATALYST SYSTEM BANK 2 EFFICENCY BELOW THRESHOLD

Has had both cats replaced (non genuine, as a pair were £600, genuine were £800 EACH!!)
Lambda probes before and after cats appear to be switching correctly.
I have heard that there maybe softwear updates for the engine control unit, anyone come across this problem before??
Any info appreciated. Thanx

Take the car to a mot test and check the emisions. If it fails, get genuine cats, if it passes, pull the lamp of the clocks. Did the lambda probes tested ok when they replaced the cats? Any other fault codes apart from the ones you listed ? Not shure about software upgrades as the ECU are self learning. Disconect the battery , turn on the lights to clear the static, reconect the battery(remember the radio code !), start the car- may run a bit rough- and take it for a verry long drive trough the town including at least 5 miles on the motorway. Also rev the engine nearly all the way to the redline so the ECU can adapt(learn) the maps with your driving style and all condition. Be safe and beware off SPEED CAMERAS ! Learning takes about 2 days so drive in every conditions and loads: stop/start, rev in first to 3000 rpm change in second , accelerate to 3-4000 rpm, shift and so on. Include at least one trip on the motorway of relaxed driving: 70-80 miles. Or you can take the car to the dealer and have AUDI download the fueling maps for you :-( at a $$$$. Keep us updated how things go. Regards, Johan.
