audi a4 fuel gauge doesn't work

hi i have a problem with my fuel gauge the rest of the gauges seem to work fine except the fuel gauge.I have been in the boot of the car to locate the sender unit but only could find a wire(in the back of the right hand-side of the boot) which would not budge,i'm not sure if that was the right place or not?I wouldn't mind as much if the fuel light went out but after putting £20 of fuel in the light is still on.Can anybody help as it is very annoying not knowing how much fuel is left,thanks marc

The fuel tank is located in front of the rear wheel under the rear seats. You'll need to lift the rear seat bench i'd expect to find the sender unit. Havent seen it myself being that my rear seats are fixed, but thats where i've come across the sender in every other car i've owned.
