A4 avant boot won,t lock

Please help my tailgate will not lock shut .The lock mechanisem will not engage whether using key manually or remote locking, my car is a 2002 a4 avant.

Hi, Mine does the same from time to time, I have had to remove the trim, locate the solonoid the pull the plunger back out, it'll then work normally for a while.
I've only had the car for a month so it's going back to the dealer for repair, I'll post later when it's fixed.
