Hi all

Does any one know how to program new ignition keys into an Audi A6 ( 2000 model W reg) or is it a dealer only process?

Thanks

Paul

KEY PROGRAMiNG: NOTE-obtain and program all keys! (max4 keys at a time !). Switch ignition on. Use key not fitted with remote control. Manually lock driver's door using key. Complete the following within 30 seconds. Within 5 seconds press UNLOCK button on first key once(programs memory position 1). Wait 5 seconds.Press unlock button once to confirm programming. Vehicle unlocks. Programming mode deactivated. Switch ignition off. Remove key. To program remaining keys into memory 2,3 and 4, carry out the complete procedure below for each key. Switch ignition ON, Use key not fitted with remote control, manually lock driver's door using key, within 5 seconds press UNLOCK button at 1 second interval as follows: TWICE for memory position 2(second key), THREE times for memory position 3(3rd key), FOUR times for memory position 4. Indicators lamp flash once every time UNLOCK button is pressed, to indicate signal received. WAIT 5 seconds. Press UNLOCK button once to confirm programing. Vehicle unlocks. Programing mode deactivated. Switch ignition OFF and REMOVE key. NOTE: ignition must be switched off between each key programing procedure. Please follow as instructed and it should work. Its MUCH EASIER to do with vag-com but you need a valid login code for immobiliser. Hope this helps. Regards, Johann.

Thanks Johann, that should keep a few quid from the dealer.

hi johann. would this procedure be the same for many models/years.I've just had 2002 a4 avant sport key coded by dealer as only 1 supplied with car 3 mths ago. I have vagcom but no login code.Would the same procedure apply?
Good info if it does

Nope, that works with cars with immo2. Newer cars can be only programmed with diagnostic equipment. You will need a program like Vag Dash to help programm the immo to recognize the transponder in the new key(s).

Cheers for reply.
I thought that was the case.I don't think the dealer even see's the code now.

An old thread, but seems relevent to me to ask a question. I want to add a spare key, but I don't have a key without remote. So I can't follow the instructions by adamss24 which says to use a key without remote to get the programming of the new transponder done.

Does anyone know how critical it is to use a non remote key? Or, is there a way to reprogram without a non remote key? I would say I've got a model with "immo2"

There are options, of course the easiest and most expensive is the dealer or an Audi specialist garage, though we are talking several hundred pounds! Your car will be similar to mine so we are in luck and a cheaper DIY solution is possible.

My keys have HAA imprinted on them, so I got this blank transponder key from here as I already have two remote keys, I wanted a smaller spare to keep in my wallet:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.16675

Now I've got the key I need to have it cut, which I think can be done at key cutters kiosk, then the transponder need to be programmed. From what I gather the key cutter may be able to do this, for a price, or might be able to do it myself, but see my last question regarding this. Still wondering if it can be done on the car, by using an original remote key.

By far the cheapest way is AUTO LOCKSMITH ASSOCIATION - THE EXPERTS (http://www.home-own.co.uk/autolocks/#)
but expect to pay £150+ if you have lost all your keys

It may be the easiet way, looks like a good way to go if you have no other choice, but the cheapest way is to buy your own key, have it cut and programme it yourself on the car if your model is capable of it. Cost of key about £5 (non remote), cutting up to £10, programming transponder free. But this method does require some knowledge and a bit of work.

If you just want to call a number and get them to do it all then your link looks like a very good option, and sounds like it will be much cheaper than the dealer. Worth bearing in mind for emergencies. Do you know much they would charge to supply one non remote key, all included?

I knew I was missing some point about all this, and isn't it nice to learn new things! The instructions for the remote fob are only get it synchronized with the central locking system, nothing to do with the key part, just to get the remote to open and close the door etc.

If you actually have to bring a new key into the equation then it gets a bit more complex, depending the type of immobilizer fitted. My car has 'immo2', and it can be done DIY. The key has a small electronic circuit, tiny as a pin head, its passive so has no need for a battery. When its placed nearby the ignition switch an RF signal sent out by the car 'excites' it and it radiates back to the immobilizer a code, a code unique to this key. If the immoblilizer recognises it as the correct code, therefore key, the car will start.

So a new key has to be programmed into the system, this can be done with Vag-Com and instructions are on the Ross-Tech wiki. To do this the SKC is needed (SKC, secret key code!). An alternative way is to get the key cutter to read the code from one of your working keys, and write this to the new key, ie your old key is effectively cloned. Not as elegant as matching the new key, but works all the same.

I've got the new blank key, just haven't decided yet which way to go, it will probably depend how much the cutter wants to do the cloning, and how much I want to play around and do it myself. But that's my understanding of what has to be done with an immo2 car, unless of course you know different.

Hi - I have a 99 v plate audi a6 - i assume my car has immo2 - anyway - can i use vag-com to retrieve SKC - or would i find it on the green sticker inside my original key - after i find it how do i sync it with key - any instructions.

Last anyone know the best place to get remote key with transponder in it. so i can use vagcom to code it.

The SKC will be on the original sticker that came with the keys, otherwise on immo2 VAG-Tacho and a suitable lead will retrieve it.

Vag-Com will programme the new transponder, though to do this you first of all have unregister all your existing keys, and start afresh to synchronise them all again, this time to include the new key, so it's not for the feint hearted. It's all in the Vag-Com wiki.

I can recommend these people to do it all for you, or the just the bits you don't want to do yourself.

Mrahman, as I've said in PM, VAG-COM will not retrieve your SKC.

Take your key apart, split the remote function bit (bottom half) and the top bit with the blade and transponder. Source a new bottom half, and replace, ensuring the new bottom half is the same frequency. Then re-code your keys as you have done before.

Hi - i have found a green sticker - but it has no frequency on it - its has the following - 4D0.837.231.A

Ive seen keys being sold on ebay with the same number as above - but with the last letter different - instead of A - they have D or E etc.

Does this matter - or as long as freq is correct it should be ok.

It can be seen once you've taken the key apart. It is engraved into the black plastic.
