Audi A4 1.9 TDi 02 plate.
this has happened twice now
driving in the rain at normal speed, the engine becomes non responsive to the accelerator pedal and will only idle at 1100 revs. the esp light comes on and the coil light flashes. turning off the engine and starting it again it only goes into this idle mode and cannot be revved any higher. the last this happened i was able to drive it using the 1100 revs around back streets and after about 20 mins turned off the engine and it started fine. the car has had several computers pluged in and all show no faults with the system. the first time this happened it was in the outside lane of the M1, little bit scary.
any ideas? grateful for you help.

First of all, you could try the coilpack. Maybe the warning light has to be illuminated at the time of fault code read.

Would suspect you have a water leak into the electronics box--and water getting onto the multi-plugs within this box causing an implausible signal from the throttle pedal sender--Hence kicks into emergency running mode. Advise renew box+lid/wiring might survive but may require repairing if corroded. Box is on right side /under bonnet/adjacent to R/H wiper+ screen trim+wipers needs to be removed to get box out. CAUTION watch screen risk of breaking

DIESEL doesn't have coilpacks!!!

Cheers John,
it happened again and this time it recorded a fault with the accelerator pedal sensor. that will be replaced but i agree with you that there maybe a water leak, will check that aswel.
only time and money will tell.
