new golf

does any one know when the new golf is due out, what engines will be available from start. i have a 2007 gt tsi 170. i want to upgrade in 2009, will the next gt be available from start.

hi paul,

The next mark6 golf is due out late 08 early 09. It was delayed, some parts redesigned and further quality improvements. It is not much of a mark6 i.e totally new model, more of a mark 5.5. They are keeping the same floorplan to save money and improve production times so they can compete with competitors.

I don't know much about the engines and trim levels but there will be more versions of the tsi engine and vw are moving away from their pd diesel engines and upgrading to common-rail.

From what I hear is VW are not happy with the mark 5 i.e build quality issues , rear suspension setup is too complex, taking too long to build , quality of plastics are cheap etc ,they are well aware that this is hurting their reputation and thus can affect car sales.

So I hope the m6 is a big improvement over the m5 , they have to get it right or they will be lose more customers.

From what I've heard that there will be new engines.

There will be a new common rail diesel engine in 140 & 170hp, the current diesel engine has reached the natural end of its life span so will be replaced & the 1,6 Petrol is gone to be replaced by the 1,4 again in different hp levels.

Mk 6 due late 2008 although underpinings are mk5 - only body panels will change. As for engines, heard most will remain as current engines aint that old.
