Hi guys,

I have a 2000 A4(B5)1.8 petrol with variable valve timing. It has completed 96000 miles.

It has recently developed an odd but intermittent fault. It starts from cold well but only runs well for 3-4 seconds. It then starts to spit back into the intake system making a series of non violent popping noises. It can be driven like this but it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. When it is not happening it drives perfectly.

All cylinders have good compression. No fault codes show up when the diagnostic system is checked. I have resisted taking it to an Audi dealer as the bill could be more than the cars worth !!!!!!!!!!!!

Has anybody come across this before or got any good ideas for a solution ?

Thanks.

Richarda

spitting back could be a lean mixture, check your cold start sensor/ fuel pressure or bad timing
