camber adjustment after damper change

I've just replaced the front shocks on my 1.9TDi and need to have the camber adjusted. Is this something that can be done by a competant home mechanic? Also how safety critical is it if the camber is a little out? I'm aware it will affect tyre wear.

Hi This can only be done with wheel alignment equipment,you must remember when you alter the camber angel the toe in is also altered.
