MK3 GOLF GTI Gearbox code

Hi,
My gearbox is knackerd on my golf and i'm trying to get another one a.s.p but everwhere i have phoned they keep askin me for the gearbox code! They told me to look inside my boot for a white sticker with the code on it! They said it starts with a D or E but i can't find anything in my boot.

Have you tried the manual, it might be in there.

Yeah i've checked the manual. I've just bin told to jack the car up and look on the gearbox its-self :1zhelp:

It will be on the casing of the gearbox itself, if you put the car on stands and have a look (might be a plastic panel that u need to remove that sits under the engine, never usually more than a half dozen screws hold it on) and get yourself a torch OR get a post on one of the golf forums such as
