I finally got my VAG.com cable working this morning and proceeded to plug it in to investigate the abs warning light issue that I have had for many months now. Basicaly, the warning light comes on and never goes out during a journey.

A scan revealed the following log:-

VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-S

Control Module Part Number: 3A0 907 379 A
Component and/or Version: ABS/EDS ITTAE 20 GI V00
Software Coding: 03604
Work Shop Code: WSC 00000
3 Faults Found:
00283 - Front Left ABS Wheel Speed Sensor (G47)
35-00 - -
00285 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs
35-00 - Please Register/Activate
00285 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs
16-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent

From the above it would appear that the LHS front sensor needs replacing and I will buy one tomorrow. Are there any other areas of the car that might trigger a G47 fault code, or is it most likely that the actual sensor needs replacing?

Cheers,

David.

00285 is the right front sensor. You could try replacing both sensors but I have seen this many times before. It is usually due to water getting into the ABS ECU. Replace both front sensors and see what happens.

Thanks for the reply.

When you say water are we thinking corrosion here? - is there an easy way to detatch the ABS ECU to dry out/look for corroded areas or is it a case of suck it and see with the sensors and then if that fails, an ebay spree in search of another ECU?

The only way I know of dealing with this is to replace both sensors and see what happens. If it doesn’t cure it you should check the wiring between the sensors and the ECU, possibly even do that first but I have never seen a fault both sides. The ECU gets corroded internally and is an extremely specialised job to repair and even then, it often isn't possible. I send mine to BBA Reman and they can repair about 50% of them. I would not buy anything off fleaBay; I have absolutely no faith in the site. There are plenty of other choices without resorting to dealing with that place, BBA Reman, specialist breakers or best of all, a new VAG unit but they are over £500. Be warned, if you remove the pump to change the ECU you will need to bleed the brakes with VAG-COM afterwards.

Thanks for the tips Crasher. I will post back when this issue is solved, however that may be..............
