what oil to use

hi,
this is my first thread all new to me,
i have just bought a mk4 golf gti T petrol 01 plate,
i am trying to find out what oil to use,i have been told so
many different things,
i normally change my oil every 5,000 miles,
but what is the best oil to use:1zhelp:
what is vw quantum oil like,
your feed back would be nice,

i think your car uses the same oil as my v6 4motion uses which is 5w40. as for make well, all the good ones are near enought the same, i used commer syner-G 5w-40, hope this is of help, i am sure other people will tell you different stuff

Hi, I have the same car mate. And i use Comma Syner-G Semi Syn 10w-40 in winter and 15w-40 in summer, changing the oil every 6k. To be honest with you, alot is personal preference depending on the mileage you do and how often you change your oil. For eg, you should use a thinner oil in winter to give it chance to get around the engine quicker when on cold start ups. Also remember that is is a waste of money to use fully synthetic if you change your oil every 5000mls, simply because fully synthetic is for most long life engines whereby the oil does not lose it's consistancy as quick. You could use the 5w-40 like v6dub suggests. The choice is yours. Personally if i chose to use a thin oil, it would have to be fully syn.
