hi
my w reg 2ltr vw beetle needs topping up approx every 800miles, i have researched this and been to vw but it seems to be a common thing.
upto now it hasnt bothered me too much, today when i when topping up i noticed a thick mustard like film under the cap!
ive looked on the net for more info on this and it all comes back to being the head gasket, but the car is not burning oil... there is no smoke of any colour coming from the exhaust, no mixing in the water and no leaks.

Can anyone give some advice please??

Hello and welcome to the forum. A layer of what we call Mayo on the back of the oil filler cap is nothing to worry about if the car is doing a lot of short journeys and oil consumption of say half a litre per thousand is also nothing to worry about. The oil will be being burnt but as the car has a catalytic converter, this takes the colour out of the smoke. The 2L 8v is known for burning oil.
