A4 engine management light

Can anyone help with a problem I have with my A4. The engine management light keeps coming on on the dashboard and I was resetting it and the light would not come on for another 10 minutes and so on. But on the motorway recently, the engine would completely shut down and immediately come back on again and at one time the oil light warning flashed up on the dashboard and the engine shut down but immediately came back on again. It has been into my local garage but he says that it could be a faulty wiring harness and he has cleaned and checked the errors it was coming up with on his computer.

Is it worth taking it into the audi dealer for them to analyse or does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be. Thanks help!!!
