Hello all,
This is my first post although I have been reading these for years! My car is running like a dog, when the revs are increased it seems to be fine. However, on tick over the car is missing badly and sometimes under load.
I have replaced the spark plugs, coil, leads, and distributor cap and rota arm. I have also bought the Vagcom and cable (shareware version), however when ran the software does not pick any fault codes.
Can anyone help? Can I use the software differently?

i will put my 2 pence worth in is your brake servo vacum hose perisished or disconnected, but you would noticed a hard brake pedal if this was so.
or your crankcase breather hoses blocked or perished, come off
you may have a vacum leak some where on the inlet manifold
just some things i have experinanced with my cars over the years
just a guess maybe worth a look
dont know anything about vagcom
hope you find it

what about your ISV is that all right?

Thanks for your reply. I have checked the brake servo vacum hose, this is all fine and I do not have a hard pedal. I crankcase breath hose is past its best but its been like that for a while (must replace – tomorrows job). This problem started while I was sat at a set of lights, everything was running fine! Then the revs dropped and the miss firing etc started.
I will look it to the vacum leak so more tomorrow – any other ideas? What the ISV?

Mine had a similar problem a few years ago, although, apparently the engine was curring out under heavy load and not ticking over (got this from the invoices the previous owner supplied with the car). As I can make out from the comments made on the invoice by the VAG dealer, they traced the problem to the engine relay system and got that replaced.
