Hello everyone, not long joined and find the forum very informative!

Can anyone out there tell me if its only 130bhp audis that are badged with a red (I) as in tdi, I know VWs are badged with both red (di) and also (i) just looking for some enlightenment.

This must be an easy starter for most clued up VAG fans out there.

Thanking you in advance for your time and effort!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

HI, older B5 110 Bhp audis are badged with a red I, and they had a 1.9 tdi vith a Bosch Ve rotary pump. Vw passat/golf with a 130 Bhp Pump Duse 1.9 tdi engine were badged with a single red I some with a red DI. Also golf with 150 Bhp Pump Duse engine were badged with a red DI, some even with a GT TDI also red. Some were even badged with a green DI. I think its only the fact that they were built in different factories and always red I/Red DI means a more powerfull/sportier model in the range. Some vw bora have red DI with a 130 Bhp Pump Duse mated to a 6 speed gearbox. The real difference between the is to check the engine/gearbox code as they are quite a few things in common. Old shape a6 tdi AAT- 115 Bhp/250 Nm, AEL-140 Bhp/276Nm, the difference between them: engine ECU and bigger injectors= 25 Bhp gain and they put a 6 speed gearbox to keep the fuel economy. B5 a4 2.5 Tdi AFB/AKN-150 Bhp/310 Nm, AKE-180 Bhp/360 Nm, difference between: bigger injectors, revised ecu, cam followers, stronger rods and list goes on but they had the same VNT20 turbocharger. AFB/AKN chips to 180Bhp/380 Nm, AKE chips to 205 Bhp/444Nm all with standard turbochargers. Older 1.9 TDI had a VNT15 turbocharger and put 90 Bhp. Swap the turbocharger/injectors from a 110 Bhp engine 1.9 tdi and you get 105-110 Bhp without much hassle. Its easy to get big power of a tdi engine compare with equivalent petrol with just a injector/chip/turbo upgrade. Some put injection pumps from automatic cars into manual ones as they are bigger and flow more fuel. Add a bigger/upgraded turbocharger that spools faster and holds boost and ECU will pump in more fuel = more power and smoke ! Add a good chip to take care of it and you will love your ultimate ROAD SLEEPER(applyes to Ve rotary pumps only).

thank you for your reply adam! You obviously have quite an in depth knowledge within the VAG doman,

more specifikly, I was wondering about an 2002 (52) plate A4 1.9tdi with a red (I) five speed, red lining at 4500 rpm if that makes any difference.

Does these details (without chasi No, etc) Indicate power output.

Once again thanks for the reply, much apreaciated.

Hope you can clear this matter up..................?

Audi had 3 tdi engines available for a4 in 2002 and all were Pump Deuse. AVB-74Kw/100 Bhp at 4000 rpm, AVF and AWX both putting out 96 Kw/130 Bhp at 4000 rpm. On some log books it may say the engine code so if you can find out compare it with the details on this thread. Hope this helps.

Hi All,

Im new to this so maybe im posting on a dead thread or something, If anyone has any advise please let me know,

My question is that I bought a 2002 Vw Passat TDi (Red d, Red i) and on Log book its 130 BHP. I looked at kw rating on Sticker/label by spare wheel and its 74KW and everywhere ive looked said this is the rating for the 100BHP model? Can anybody shed any light on this? Have I been sold a 100 BHP model in disguise? Why would the log book differ from the actual BHP?

Any help would be most appreciated,

Thanks,
Anthony
