Hi everyone, would like to pick your collective brains!

I have a Golf Mk IV 1.4e year 2000. Recently i've been having some problems with stuttering acceleration. Have changed the plugs and the HT leads with no effect. My mechanic has suggested that it could be the Air Mass Meter, however, after going to a local German, Swedish and French car parts outlet, i was told that my car doesn't actually have one!
Can anyone tell me if my particular model is supposed to have an Air mass meter fitted, and if it does, whereabouts is it?
Any advice would be a great help.
Many thanks.

I have the exact same problem, revs flutter at idle and i cant get it to maintain a constant speed (juddering) between 2nd and 4th gear. It's had a diagnostic test and returned no faults, i have cleaned the throttle body and housing, cleaned all spark plugs up and also tried injector cleaner. All made absolutley no difference. I have heard of this problem in my friends car(s) and majority of the time it has been the MAF sensor, my local garage said "you dont have a MAF sensor"???????? Could this be related to the cat(back pressure) or even the lambda sensor?

This is really doing my head in now, anybody got any idea's?

Managed to get the car into VW specialist, they have confirmed that 99 1.4 16v's dont have MAF sensors.

It is booked in for a full throttle body clean, ECU values reset and new HT leads. We'll see if that works.

Watch this space.......

Hi there, I too am having the same problem on my 99 1.4 16v. Have you had any joy with this? I am going nuts over this. I have put a new clutch in, new sparks and new leads as well as new air and petrol filter. You are right the 1.4 does not have a MAF sensor. I resitted the Main air mass pipe back in just to eliminate any loose connections but has made no difference. Is there anything delicate in this connecting pipe that might be damaged? Is it worth repairing? Has your tests with VW been successfull? Thanks for your help:Blush:
