:1zhelp:

Hey,

I need to get my cambelt and waterpump changed, I am new to VAG coming from Jap motors and have no idea where to take it. I know of Awesome GTI but they want £100 more than Audi so not interested

Are there any more around?

Thanks

Thanks, I rang them but they still came out pretty expensive. A friend told me of a local specialist today called Cheshire German Specialists. Got a price and its very good so ill be getting it done there.

Thanks again

Hi Bong Water

Did you get the cambelt done by Cheshire German Specialists? I'm considering taking my Audi there but wish to know what you think as their website is a little bit vague.

Cheers

Hi,

No sorry not yet. However a friend of mine has had a sensor changed and a service there, also fixed his knocking Milltek exhaust on his Leon Cupra 20VT which Awesome GTI couldnt cure and his brother has had a major service done on his Audi 1.9TDI and some electrical problems rectified.

If you get any work done please post your thoughts in this thread. Thanks

Just called them and for my A6 2.7 Petrol Quattro they quoted:
£260 for cambelt
£35 for the water pump, &
£220 for the 80,000 mile service
VAT to be added so around £600 in total
That is a saving of 50% compared with any Audi dealership and 20-30% on most VAG specialists, so i'm going to risk it.
Having talked to them they sound on the ball and experienced, so watch this space come next Friday morning.

Later

So what happened mate?

I paid £298 for a full service and MOT, seemed pretty good if not expensive. They gave me some advice on what could do with replacing and seemed to know their stuff.

Its going back there for the cambelt and waterpump next month, like I say its expensive for an independant but cheaper than Audi

Just double confirmed with VW Crewe(main dealers) about a cmabelt and tensioner change on my 99 1.8t estate.

£184.50 inc vat and parts, with a courtesy car too.

Gonna book it in the next few days!

I`ll report back on my findings

Seems cheap, what year is it?

Does it include waterpump?

Its a 1999, and its just the cambelt and tensioner.

I inquired about the water pump and thats £62 extra.

Its on ebay the offer.

I`m emailed them and spoken to them on the phone, no catches.

Does your front end have to come away or is that Quattro only?

Sorry but seems very cheap, can you link me to the add please as I cant find it?

I would be willing to drive there from Mancsville for that price to get mine done, I have been quoted £300 for cambelt and waterpump inc VAT

Thanks

Just type in passat cambelt and scroll down...(on ebay of course)

Front end does come off on passats to get access.
It mounted longitudinally... or whatever the correct terminology is?

Thats a good deal for a main dealer, if I add waterpump and the fuel used to get there and back it makes it not worthwhile.

Thanks for sharing though!

Thats why these forum are useful.

I`m driving from bolton, as SKF bolton wanted £425.... but they would discount it by 25% as the car is over 3 years old.

Still worth my while...

Sorry for delay Bong Water - started new job in Leeds and mega busy.

Originally quoted for full service and cambelt, so dropped it off. He started the service and rang me back mid-morning as I had only told him over the phone that it was a 2.7L V6 assuming it was the only one from 1999 so he would know it was a Quattro Bi-Turbo. little did I know there was a 2.7L V6 from that model that was non Quattro!!!

Hence, the bad news was the service would cost £40 (£260) more as the twin turbo engine involves more labour and more costly parts - like special spark plugs.

Also the cambelt is different and would take practically all day to do and would cost £380 - not £260, so he could not do it that day. I have checked and this is still cheaper than anywhere else I could take it. The guy, Chris, did explain in detail and it is clear, after I picked up the car from the service that he cares about the cars he works on. he went through each check he had done in detail and explained what to look for and how to drive it better.

Most important, he spotted two faults on the car that I knew existed, but did not tell him about as I did not want to fork out in one go. So, i know he really went over the car with a fine tooth-comb. My car is running better and i have every confidence in the quality of his work and price.

when you buy a car like mine you do have to fork out, but specialists like this are hard to come by, so will be using him for all future work.

Don,t forget the water pump is an exchange item, you should get around £30 back for handing in the old one.
