Hi, can anyone help? I have a 1998 2.8 quattro avant. When I lock the doors either with the key or remote all the doors lock but the indicators don't flash nor do the diodes on the door. When I unlock the doors the indicators flash twice and thats it. Could it be the siren battery thats been mentioned in other threads or is it more complicated than that (and more expensive)

Get it read for fault codes but the most common problem is water getting into the unit which is in the boot under the floor on the right hand side.

I suppose that means an expensive trip to an Audi dealer?

No, just about any competent garage can read the codes on the central locking system and especially a VAG specialist. Do you know anyone with a copy of VAG-COM? A typical VW specialist would charge about £30 for a code read, clear, quick test (operate the system), re-read and printed report from VAG-COM.

I had the exact same problem. I was advised to check the bonnet catch alarm trigger for corrosion and sure enough there it was after disconnecting this I have had no further problems and the alarm works as it should

Thanks for the suggestion steve. I've just disconnected the wires to the bonnet switch but it hasn't made any difference to the alarm.

Have you had the system scanned for codes yet?

I,ve booked it in for a diagnostic check at German Engineering Services in Leigh on sea for next Thursday however it seems to have another problem now. Took the battery out yesterday to clear the drainage vents which were clogged up and now the tickover is uneven and a couple of times the auto box has not changed up at normal revs and has revved up to about 4000 .
