Hello all!

Recently bought a 150bhp V5 toledo, i'm loving it so far but i have a problem.
When the engines Idle it rattles a little (sounds a bit diesel like, its fine when driving).
Hope someone can help http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

Cam chain and tappet rattle is common on these engines.

Cheers crasher, I'm getting a little worried thinking it might be the timing chain... Not the best time of the year for something like that to be done :)

I have a Golf 3 VR6 (almost identical to the VR5) that came in Friday night with really bad chain slap so it is box out tomorrow to see what needs doing. It is a big job and I would recommend cam followers when the chains are off, it isn't much more work.

I had the car checked out by my local mechanic and he says its not the cam chain but something to do with the pistons? Does that sound right?
I've listened to a video someone posted with the Timing Chain prob and it sounds quite similar.

Could be piston slap but that should go away when hot, if it doesn’t that isn't good. The one I have here has developed a little; it now sounds more like a dropped valve so I am pulling it apart this PM.

Cheers crasher going to see if it disappears on the way back from work.

Could possibly be the dual mass flywheel - if you can still hear the rattle the second or so after you turn the engine off.

Cheers for the reply pauloz, it could well be the dual mass flywheel. Ill have to check. Thankfully it wasn't the Cam chain.
