Just been quoted £436.11 for 1999 A4 2.4 V6 cambelt and tensioner change at dealer. Is this about right? Should I have the water pump done at the same time? The car has done 50,000 only.

Is that a dealer quote or your local garage ?

I would say have the waterpump done at the same time, as if the pump goes, its going to cost you the same labour again to get the pump done.

I had the waterpump on mine done at the time of the cam belt.

Add £41 for a genuine Audi exchange water pump (2 year guarantee, make sure they use a genuine pump, if it fails, Audi will do all the work to replace it) and £11 for a thermostat (same guarantee conditions as the water pump) and that is a very fair price for doing the job properly, slightly cheap really.

Didn't they recommend pump and thermostat?

Just to update anyone that is interested. Paid £515 inc. VAT for cambelt and tensioners, water pump and thermostat today at local Audi dealer including 2 year warranty on work done. Expensive but reassuring! Also enquired about having oil change done at same time using my own oil, hoping I would get a freebie. They quoted £78 for oil filter, sump plug and 30 minutes labour. I declined!

Hi there, Can I ask which audi dealer did this work for you? I have just been quoted £990 by Brentford Audi for exactly the same work!! Thanks

I had it done at Huddersfield Audi. I asked for and got discount but £990 sounds very steep. I have seen Stafford Audi advertise cambelt and tensioner on ebay (ITEM NO. 110346097766) FOR £395. Hope this helps.
