Hello,

Im new to this forum and am looking for some information regarding a Golf Mk V 2.0TDI (170ps). I am looking to buy one of these cars over the coming weeks and would be interested in getting it remapped to boost the performance somewhat.
I am also considering getting a BMW 330D, and after comparing the figures it seems that the above golf when remapped has similar figures (is actually more powerful in torque) than a standard 330D.
Am I to take these figures with a pinch of salt or is it true that a remapped golf will be on par, performance wise with a 330D? I know the golf is lighter than the 3 series which will also help.

If anyone with a remapped 2.0TDI 170ps (either A3 or Golf) could report back what their car is like to drive after the remap I would be really grateful and interested.

Or if anyone has had chance to drive both cars and could maybe compare the performance differences?

Thanks for any help :)
Nick

I would get the BMW every time. Apparently one of the best diesel engines on the market, and free revving like a petrol.

The VW PD technology is getting a little out-of-date now, and if you can afford it, get the BMW.

I say this as someone who couldn't afford it, and has just bought an 04 Golf TDI 140, which is a great car, and will doubtless be even better once I get it remapped!!

How are you finding your new car?
What remap do you plan on getting it and when?

Thoroughly enjoying it. I thinks it's previous life may have been pottering around in town, as previous owner was a woman living in Battersea with a kid. I've got 3000 miles under my belt now (on 31k) and it's loosening up nicely as I do a motorway round trip of 110m, and also either use super-diesel or add Millers Diesel Sport 4 to the tank if I fill up with normal diesel. Powerful enough between 2-4k revs, but I'd like to get it remapped to give it a bit extra - not until October though as Norwich Union won't cover re-mapped cars :(

BMW have just released the 201bhp 123d. Might be worth a lookie. around £24k for the M-Sport

Or maybe the 170 S-Line A3 Quattro.

Another member has had their A4 170 TDI remapped - 210bhp :)

Lots of fun.

Also superchips have yet to rolling road one that has put out less than 180bhp stock.

Having owned both, currently driving a remapped 140bhp (just shy of 200bhp now) go for the 330d all day every day, different class and league!!
