Hi, I have a 2000 "v" Golf Gti 8v (58k miles) in immaculate condition..

approx 3 months ago the fuel economy dropped from 35mpg to 25mpg with no other changes in overall performance. This lasted for a month and then returned to normal before again dipping to an average of 25mpg now. the car is running at 8mpg when under hard acceleration/overtaking..

No warning lights have come on, the air mass sensor has been changed and the car has been serviced regulary hence its not a filter derived problem..

Any ideas? i would love to rectify this as its a cracking car otherwise..

If the car has been scanned for codes and none are stored I suspect your consumption is only based on the dashboard readout which is beginning to get a reputation for being inaccurate. Try doing a brim to brim over miles measurement and compare that with the MFA display group 2 overall consumption measurement.

Identical car as the one i own and exactly the same problem. I changed the coolant sensor but that has not worked.

Do you also see a lot more smoke when you put your toe down and do you get the occasional whiff of a foul smell drifting through the car?
