1999 convertible idles irratically

hi my wife has just bought a 1999 audi convertible and the first day we went to go out in it we had a problem - it wouldnt start so we called the aa out and they said it was the alternator so i changed the battery and alternator now it idles irratically and when slowing down it tends to cut out as any one got any ideas, i called a mechanic out who said it could be the wiring loom, he tried the throttle valve.

plus the electric hood doesnt work..........................

does anyone know what hayes manual i need.really struggling to find the correct one.
