help with fault...please

Can anyone help, I have a MK3 GTi it has worked fine, until yesterday, it starts ok but when you get a mile up the road, it wont rev over 1000 rpm and sounds like it only has 3 cylinders. If you leave it for 5 mins its ok. Until tonight it did the same but just stopped, I run home to get a tow home, when I got back anround 30 mins later it started fine and I drove home???
Im guessing electrical it has rained a fair bit the last few days. Is this a common fault???

More than likely you have a faulty crankshaft speed sensor but you need to have a fault code read done to prove this.
