Hi,

Having had a few VWs with 4-Motion and my S6 with Quattro, I'd be loathed to get a car without 4 wheel drive.

What other makes of 2nd hand hatch or saloon can you buy (for under £10k) with 4x4 please?

The only other one I can find is the Volvo V50..

Cheers - Alex.

Well my choice was the V50 AWD..

You can pick up a decent enough Subrau Impreza Or an Evo with 4x4 for around 10k..

You could also get a S3 from around 2000 for 10k now

Fiat Panda 4X4 :biglaugh:

I will have a think on this one!!

Is the 4-motion the one that waits until theres a loss in grip to the rear axle before cutting in the 4wd?

I agree with Rick, Subaru or EVO for on-road 4x4. My mate has Subarus so that would be my first choice.

Used to work with a guy who claimed he had one of each in his garage (never seen them or have been able to verify if it was true but he was the company MD so I have no doubt he could afford it).

His verdict was that the EVO was more pleasurable to drive and he could give it more stick than the Subaru. However, the Sub was more reliabe and needed less sevicing.

I believe that the Scooby is far less plastiky than the Evo. And don't forget that the Evo will need servicing every 10k.

shame it's not new cos:

The S3 is exactly 1 second slower to 60mph than an Evo.
It's 2 insurance groups lower, does 10mpg more.

Is half the cost of servicing of an Evo (£3k)

Does practically the same top speed, although I think the S3 is limited.

155mph vs 157mph

It's also £1k cheaper than an FQ300, £8.6k cheaper than a FQ360

Also - The Audi S5 is only £39k :biglaugh:

only!!

And that is a monster - 0-60 in 5.1
