new engine??????

hi people! just got my mk2 1991 golf gti 8v from beneath all the junk in my garage. its been there for 3 years or so waiting for me to put it back on the road.(full original clean up/restoration in mind) sent it straight down to my local mechanic to check the car over.he says if he finds any engine problems it might pay to just drop a new lump in there!! been not very mechanically minded myself i'm here to ask you people what my options are? if i have the engine changed how much hassle would it be to drop a vr6 lump in?????? will it fit??? if not a vr6 engine what do you suggest?? thanks

S3 1.8 T will fit with not much hassle, will cost about 3-5 K and will give 250-300 Bhp. Remember to upgrade suspension and the brakes while you there. Talk with dubsport or jabbasport as they done tens of these engine transplants. I personally would transplant a 1.9 PD TDI with 130-150 Bhp and after a decent remap will give close to 200 Bhp and still return 50 Mpg !
