55A Alternator

Righty, got myself a 55A bosch alternator today. Spent an hour getting faffed one off. Then to my surprise, I found that the lower bracket (the wide one) is too wide by about a millimetre. On the left side of the bracket attached to the engine, there's like a sort of spacer thingy. It's a cylinder of metal, inside the bolt hole, with a split down one side. I can get molegrips on but I can't compress it to get it out or in.

Angle grinder maybe??

If I remember correct, if you give this a gentle "tap" it should move to compensate for the gap.

BUT BE CARFUL!!! HIT IT TOO HARD AND YOU MAY BREAK THE CASTING;)

Ahh I see. I'll try that then.

Might have to give it a drink of WD40 too, seems to be pretty tight.
