View Full Version : vw transporter 1.9td alternator light .

my 1996 transporter alternator light stays on until u rev it above 3k revs then it goes out went to start it today and battery flat does this sound like i need a new alternator or brush kit i have alternator of my passat 1.9td which was a1994 model but looks to be 70 amp the transporter is 90amp is it worth a try any info would be helpfull.

You could try changing the brushes as a starting point to. You will need to locate the right ones for your model alternator though. I would doubt its the voltage regulator. I would also check wiring and clean all terminals to and from battery/alternator.:beerchug:

Does dound like the reg is faulty, thus the draing of the battery overnight :)
Stick a spanner on the pulley of the alt. and if it sticks, the reg is broken :)

I would say as its not charging on idle the bushers are worn, as a result of this the battery is not charging correctly and will be suffering from the cold weather and poor charger..
i would look at replacing the full unit... try your local breaker yard quoting the part number on yours.
